In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Enclosure: Copy of a paper by George Meese, commander of the RUBY, in which he states that the efficiency of ships in the West Indies is being greatly hampered by sickness and that there is no proper place to care for men ashore to the extent that the Governor of Barbadoes was obliged to provide assistance to men to aid recovery. He proposes that a Hospital should be built which could be staffed by Surgeons from ships who could also be made responsible for securing provisions for their charges. In the event that Surgeons' medicine chests might prove inadequate they could be supplemented. [No date recorded].
