The South Building, also known as the New Observatory, The Royal Observatory, Greenwich, London.
Looking south-east from the meteorological instruments platform on the roof of the Magnet House in the grounds of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, showing the South Building or New Observatory, completed in 1896. The north and west wings are the elevations in view. The dome is open to reveal the Thompson 26" telescope. A very similar view to negative number P39987, taken on the same occasion but from a slightly different position and the sun has come out, the shadows indicating a late evening photograph. A masked negative.
