In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
We have granted a commission to Captain Peter Pickard, late commander of the ROYAL KATHERINE, to be Captain of the SAUDADOES prize, now at Jamaica. He is ordered to take the first opportunity to proceed to her in any merchant ship bound there. You are directed to have half his wages paid to him, taking care that His Majesty is made a saver out of the rest of his pay for any irregularity which he may have committed during his service. We are advised that Captain Pickard intends to proceed in the KATHERINE, Captain Thomas Lyell commander, which is now in the Thames. You are to treat with the owners or commander of the ship for the best terms that may be had for the passage and victuals of the Captain and his allowed servants and to make payment accordingly.
