In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

A petition has been presented by Robert Hawkins, Master of the ROE ketch, on behalf of himself and Edward Deaves, Thomas Wright and John Cutler, setting out that they were ordered to stay in Virginia after the ketch was cast away, to save what they could of the King's stores. They pray an order for the payment of their wages and an allowance for charges and expenses in that country. Your report of 31 January that it seemed reasonable that they remained in Virginia and should be paid up to 15 June 1698 the time of their leaving, and that the Master should be paid £41.7.6 for the disbursement of victuals and other necessaries. You are directed to pay them accordingly.
