A collection of letters to Sir John Philippart, military historian and editor of the Naval Gazette (1874). All are written by Admiral Belcher except two by Dr King.They cover the years 1850-63 and deal with matters of topical interest, naval politics and personalities and scientific subjects. Some letters refer to the Arctic expedition in search of Sir John Franklin, commanded by Belcher in HMS ASSISTANCE 1852-4, and a newspaper cutting of Captain Henry Kellett, Capt. Sir E. Belcher and Capt. Pullen.
