Documents deposited in iron cylinder in cairn at Christmas Harbour, Kerguelen Island, by HMS CHALLENGER, 31 January 1874 and found by Captain T Ring of the S.S. JEANE d'ARC in 1908, with messages left by Allen Young of the PANDORA when looking for Nares expedition, August 1876, and an epitaph written by Sir Ernest Shackleton for three members of his 1914 - 1917 expedition (formerly FD/46).
