Victory Medal 1914-18
Awarded to Captain Albert Edward Dossett MC. Obverse: Winged Victory standing (front), a palm branch in her right hand, her left arm outstretched. Reverse: Within a laurel garland, Inscription: 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION 1914-1919'. Inscribed on edge: 'CAPT. A.E.DOSSETT'. Suspended from a watered silk ribbon of rainbow hues. Mounted on a bar with two others.
Captain Albert Edward Dossett (1896-1972) Dossett entered the Royal Navy at the age of eighteen in 1915 and transferred to the Royal Naval Division. Whilst serving as a Sub-Lieutenant he was wounded at the Battle of the Somme and awarded the Military Cross. The citation in the ‘London Gazette’, 1916 reads as follows: ‘For conspicuous gallantry in action. Although severely wounded, he continued to lead and encourage his men, displaying great courage and determination’. When recovered he was made a King’s Messenger and in October 1917 he transferred to the Indian Army. He was invalided home to Britain in 1923.
