Scene on board a liner
Graham Laidler was an extremely popular artist, who worked for 'Punch' along with Ronald Searle and Rowland Emmett. His gentle sense of humour was based on close observation of those around him, and he produced a series of cartoons called 'The British Character'. The drawing is signed and inscribed: Passenger (on luxury liner) "You must admit, Annie, that it is hard to realise that you are actually afloat on the ocean".
