Medal commemorating the Duke of Saxony wrecked near Stockholm, 1702. Obverse: The Duke's bust (right), long curls and wearing armour. Legend: 'IOH : WILHELM . DVX . SAX . I . C . M . A . ET W.' (John William Duke of Saxony, Julich, Cleve, Berg, Engern and Westphalia). Reverse: A two-masted vessel breaking in half in a gale against a rock projecting into the sea. A number of people on the rock. Legend: 'PER TOT DISCRIMINA SALVVS.' (Saved from among so many dangers.) Exergue: 'E NAVFRAGIO AD HOLMIAM FACTO . MDCCII VIII . APRIL .' (From the wreck near Stockholm.) Along the Exergual line: 'APERIENTI BIBLIA E FLVCTIB . RAPTA FORTE OBLAT . PS CVII . 21 . 32.' (As he opened the Bible, washed up by the waves, it opened at the 107th psalm, vs. 21 to 32.)
