Medal commemorating the Gallipoli campaign. Obverse: Within a band (right) shaped like the Turkish crescent moon, a Highlander carrying a model of a steamer; below, a French soldier on one knee firing a rifle, inscription (left). Inscription (in the field, left): 'DIE MONDSVCHTIGEN . AUF GALLIPOLI.' (The lunatics at Gallipoli.) Reverse: Two skeletons lying in the trenches, barbed wire entanglements fading into the distance (right), crescent and star above (the fate of the French and British soldier shown on the obverse.) Legend: '1915, 1916.'
