Obverse: An eight-pointed white enamelled star with silver rays between the points and, in the centre, within a circle of blue enamel superimposed on an anchor the head of France (F). Legend: "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE". Inscription Reverse: "MERITE MARITIME". Legend: "MARINE MARCHAND". Fitted with a ring and blue ribbon with two green stripes.
