At Royal Museums Greenwich we're committed to the online safety of children, including those who use our websites and other digital platforms
Images of children
We only use photographic images of children on our websites and in digital communications with the written permission of a parent or guardian.
Challenging content
Due to the nature of the historical subject matter that our collections and exhibitions cover, such as the transatlantic slave trade, please be aware that our parts of our websites may contain some graphic and challenging descriptions and imagery. This applies particularly to our Collections website.
Personal information
Users under 16 must have the consent of a parent or guardian before providing us with any personal information. We may ask for personal information if your child enters a competition or registers to use interactive services during a visit to the Museums or our websites.
For more information on when we ask for personal data and how we handle and use it, please see:
If you have any concerns about information your child may have given us or their use of our websites or digital platforms, please let us know by emailing RMGenquiries@rmg.co.uk.
We'll do our best to respond within 24 hours (or 48 hours if you contact us over a weekend).
Social media
The Museums publish content via various social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Vimeo and YouTube. Users of any age can access this content, although for all the services except Twitter you need to be 13 or older to sign up for an account. We also publish content on our blog, which allows users of any age to interact with us.
Keeping your child safe online
If your child has access to the internet, it's important to make sure they know about how to keep themselves safe.
You should advise them not to enter information that could be used to identify them without asking you or another parent or guardian first. This includes their:
- name
- age
- address
- personal email address
- and telephone number.
