In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The Master Shipwright at Chatham has written to Sir Edward Gregory Commissioner complaining of a bad practice that is becoming prevalent in the Navy - that of scraping the decks, gratings and ladders of HM ships to the point where they return from sea after only a few months and in poor condition. The Board is to look into the matter and report on what is to be done regarding the health of the sailors.
