In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Captain Soanes, late Commander of the JAMES GALLEY, was tried on April 5th last by Court Martial held at Blackstakes for the loss of this Ship and sentenced to forfeit his Pay for her, with three hundred pounds to be paid to the Chatham Chest, and to be imprisoned till this sum is paid.
The Lord Justice of England has now directed this Board that part of the Court Martial sentence related to the three hundred pounds should be remitted in consideration of the deplorable condition of his wife and family.
We have therefore ordered Captain Soanes to be set at liberty and direct you to give the necessary Orders for remitting this Fine.
