In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
It appears to us by several depositions that the hired Ship ENGLAND Frigate was actually sunk by engaging with the Enemy and not surrendering to them. We therefore direct you to pay the usual Bounty Money to the Widows or relations of Men that were drowned when the Ship sank, and also the usual Clothes allowance to men on board her that were saved.
Several Commission and Warrant Officers were appointed to the TIGER by the Governor of Barbados. You are to cause the Wages due to them for this employment to be paid, although they were not confirmed by this Board.
The Commander of the QUEENBOROUGH has informed us that William White, a Chatham Chest Pensioner, has deserted his Ship. We direct you to cancel his Pension.
You asked whether the tax of four shillings for the burial of Seamen in HM service dying on shore is to be allowed on HM Account or charged on the Seamens' Wages. We direct that this tax is to be allowed on HM's Account.
