In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Captain Joseph Soanes, late Commander of the JAMES galley, has petitioned this Board that you refuse to pay him the wages due to his servants in that ship, until such time that he has cleared an imprest of £20. It appears that upon oath made by Captain Soanes that the books and papers relating to the ship's accounts were lost with her, but he has disbursed £5 more than the £20 advanced to him to procure men for the ship. We send you herewith his affidavit and direct you to clear his imprest.
