Document signed by William Lowndes, 1652-1724, Secretary to the Treasury (from 1695) under King William III and Queen Anne
I have read your report of 19 November 1694 to the Treasury Commissioners, on the petition of the Officers, Clerks and other persons, employed in His Majesty's yards and offices, whose salaries do not exceed £100 per annum, praying relief in the assessment made upon them by virtue of the Act of Parliament for the tax of 4 shillings in the pound for one year. You are directed to make bills on the Treasurer of the Navy for paying the taxes assessed upon the Officers and Clerks, taking care that they are not allowed more than the taxes they have paid.
