In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Representations were made to the Lords Justices that several seamen had deserted and orders were given to the Earl of Romney, Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports and Lord Lieutenant of Kent, to send directions to the Mayors of Canterbury and Sandwich, to set watches to secure such seamen and send them on board any of His Majesty's ships. You are directed to give orders to the Clerk of the Cheque at Woolwich to pay 20 shillings for each deserter sent by the civil magistrates on board His Majesty's ships between Woolwich and Longreach, and to give the like directions to the Clerk of the Cheque at Sheerness for men delivered in the River Medway. Persons delivering such men to produce certificates of their delivery.
