In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Captain Wyatt of the ROYAL OAK is asking for entries made at Sheerness denoting the desertion of men over-staying their leave be rescinded. The Admiralty however is asking for an enquiry. Instructions are issued for the SHEERNESS to be cleaned either at Milford or at Portsmouth. Admiral Russell has reported that the Muster Master for the Mediterranean Fleet, Mr Wilkins, has returned to England without his knowledge. An Order is given for him to be discharged the service and to be paid only up to the time he left the Mediterranean. Mr Meesters has submitted a petition asking for payment for hiring the EPHRAIM - which last year was converted to a Smoking Fireship - in place of the FORTUNE. The Board is asked to report on how matters stand at present. Confusion has arisen concerning the entry by Captain Cornwall of the ROYAL KATHERINE of a large number of new recruits just before an engagement with the enemy having allegedly sent the CHRISTOPHER Ketch to Barnstaple and Biddeford to press Men. Nevertheless, Cornwall is to be paid for his time in the ROYAL KATHERINE provided the Navy Board agrees that his claim is true. A change of mind is made regarding the proposal to fit the PARAMORE Pink in the Thames as an Advice Boat. She is to remain in service for the purpose for which she was built.
