In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Announcing the results of two Courts Martial. One held aboard the ST. MICHAEL and another on the BRITANNIA both in the Medway and both presided over by Lord Berkeley. The first concerned the burning of the ROYAL SOVEREIGN at her moorings near Gillingham resulting in Thomas Couch and Thomas Everden Carpenter being ordered to forfeit all there pay to the Chatham Chest, while the second records that Captain Henry Totterdale of the TIGER has been fined a large sum plus loss of pay due to him for failing to come to the assistance of the BETTY Hired Ship. A copy of the sentences is enclosed.
