In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

You have informed us by your letter of the 23rd inst; that such Merchants who supply Hemp, Tar ,Pitch and other Naval Commodities this year have informed you that they cannot undertake the same, as their Factor in Sweden is likely to be forced out of the country, as the Tallys appointed to satisfy their Bills for Goods served in the last year cannot be discounted without very great loss to them. The season for providing these Stores is far advanced and we direct you to take care for procuring Hemp, Tar, Pitch, Masts, Plank, Canvas and other Foreign Commodities in a manner you judge proper, letting us know what measures you are taking, and concerning the Tallys you are to apply to the Treasury Lords for all possible redress.
