In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

Captain Meese has brought with him two ships the RAINBOW and BIGGOT [?] from the Soundings to Portsmouth which were taken from the enemy, the one of 30 and the other of 14 guns. You are directed to have the ships surveyed and report your opinion whether they are proper to serve as men-of-war. If so, what number of men and nature of guns may be fitting for them. You are also to have the PLAY prize surveyed, either at Plymouth or Spithead and report on her condition whether she should be repaired. Also for the SHEERNESS as soon as she arrive at the Nore. In answer to your letter of 11 November about the Lord Berkeley's retinue, you are to proceed according to the directions you have already received.
