In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board

On 9 November we sailed from the Nore but the wind took us from the south east and the next morning, on the advice of the pilot, we went to the outer part of the Rowling grounds off Harwich. That night, the wind blowing violently from the south east, our anchors came home so that the ship drove upon the shore and I was forced to lighten the ship by throwing provisions overboard. By 4 o'clock, the storm continuing very violent, we were forced to cut our main and foremast by the board for preservation of the ship. The ship is much disabled and her rudder beat way. Signed Captain Price, Commander of the CENTURION.
