Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)
Your letter of 13 November about the Storekeeper at Harwich, Mr Ferne, has been put before their Lordships. The letter mentions that his compounding with some of the salvers for saving part of the stores of the CARLISLE by leaving some old stuff not worth the charge of fetching in their hands, does not seem to be any disservice to His Majesty or breach of orders, he being authorised to defray the charge of these stores as well as he could. You are directed to send their Lordships a copy of the order you gave him that they may be better able to judge the matter.
