In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Admiral Russell granted a Warrant on the 13th December 1694 to John Chaddock to be Purser of the GRAFTON, who had been for several years Clerk to Vice Admiral Mitchell. In consideration of his usefulness to the Vice Admiral in that capacity he continued as Clerk, and a deputy was appointed for that employment until his removal on arrival in harbour.
Chaddock, by reason of his continuing abroad with the Vice Admiral, did not have an opportunity to enter himself on board the GRAFTON, but his duty has been performed by another person by the direction of the Chatham Commissioner, for whom he was to be accountable.
We direct you to pay him his Wages from September 13th 1694 in case you have no other objection than his acting by a deputy.
