Document signed by William Lowndes, 1652-1724, Secretary to the Treasury (from 1695) under King William III and Queen Anne

The Treasury Commissioners direct you to pay Lord Berkeley, Colonel of the second Marine Regiment, or his Agent, by way of Imprest the Sum of six thousand eight hundred and fifty one pounds five shillings to be paid over to the Clothiers of the said Regiment, for Cloaths and Beds supplied by them to the Regiments for the year 1694. You are to make out a Bill of Imprest on the Navy Treasurer for the same, and assign the said Bill for payment out of Tallys remaining in the hands of the Treasurer on the Dutys on Coals etc.
This sum is to be charged as an Imprest on the pay of the whole Regiment, and will make the Regiment equal to that commanded by the Marquess of Carmarthen, to whom like sums have long since been Impressed for Clothing in 1694.
