In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
In pursuance of HM Order in Council dated 10th December, we direct you to cause the Pay, Bounty Money and Conduct Money of the several Press Gangs employed in procuring Men for the Fleet, who shall not be at the payment themselves, to be paid to the Captain or any other Officers empowered to receive the same. You are to take care to call them to account for the said Money, and which of the Persons do not appear to receive the same from them, so that you may be able to demand from them what remains in their hands, upon the non-appearance of any Persons employed in the Press Gangs.
In pursuance of HM Order in Council we have directed the Admiral of the Fleet to pay the Magistrates out of the Contingent Money, twenty shillings for each deserter they shall take up and send to the Fleet.
You are to cause the same to be deducted out of their Pay, and to enable you to do this, we have directed the Admiral to transmit to you an exact account of the deserters sent to the Fleet, and to which Ships they belong.
