Ings, Derek, BISN Co. Officer: Letters from MS CHANDA.

Letters numbered 1-53 (or notes where letters/parcels were), some several pages long, arranged chronologically. No. 13 is a note referring to a Christmas card in 1945 ephemera folder. The letters were written from many places around the world including Liverpool, London, New York, Hong Kong, Sydney, Melbourne, Madras, Calcutta and Bombay. Ings compares the CHANDA to ships he worked on previously, and finds it superior in many ways. He also writes about the passengers, describing the first group to board as 'a good crowd, mostly Canadians'. He then writes in great detail about social events on board, his meals, his colleagues and the places they visit. He describes his feelings about New York City as 'much too much for me to set down in writing', and in the same letter (no. 7) Ings has later (in 2009) inserted a post-it note at the point where he describes meeting June, his future wife.
