Electing him a member of the Royal Society of Gottingen, signed by Abraham Gotthelf Kaestner. Kaestner was a full professor of natural philosophy and geometry, and took over as director of the observatory after Tobias Mayer. Kaestner was the doctoral adviser to Mayer's son, Johann Tobias Mayer.
