Document signed by Sir Cloudesley Shovell, 1650-1707, rear-admiral, and promoted Admiral of the Blue in 1696.

Extract of a letter from Sir Cloudesley Shovell on board the CAMBRIDGE at Saint Helen's concerning a complaint made by some men originally from the HOPE who were lent to the YARMOUTH to bring her from Harwich and who, in consequence, were not on board the HOPE when she was paid and did not receive their wages. Captain Robinson, of the HOPE, who should have paid them, was captured by the French before he could do so, and the complainants remain unpaid.
