In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
1. The widows of seamen lost in the ENGLAND FRIGATE, Hired Ship, sunk in an engagement with the enemy, are petitioning for their husbands' bounty money. Are sending a copy of the court martial findings and an affidavit concerning the ship's loss. Payment is to be made in accordance with the rules.
2. The widow of Captain Anthony Hastings, claims £168-9s-0d; that being the amount disbursed by him at Bristol when obtaining men for the SANDWICH. Require an account of how matters stand.
3. The wages due to the late Captain Vaughan, earned while commanding the DARTMOUTH, are to be paid; notwithstanding the loss of his journal and other papers when his ship was taken by the enemy.
4. Are sending a paper from William James, Ropemaker, proposing methods of avoiding abuses connected with the manufacture of cordage. He is to be interviewed and any worthwhile suggestions adopted.
5. Ketches and Pinks employed in the Channel are to be supplied with tallow for cleaning.
