Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)

The BONADVENTURE's rudder is defective and the ship is still in the Downes and their Lordships have not yet received your opinion as to how she may be most conveniently repaired. You are directed to let them know as soon as possible. The Captain of the GRIFFEN fireship at Portsmouth, has advised us that the Surgeon is incapable of service due to the gout and being dim sighted. You are directed to have another sent down so that the present Surgeon may be discharged.
