In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The Muster Master at Shoreham has asked for a boat to enable him to perform his duty. He advises that there is one there which belonged to one of His Majesty's ketches and with little charge might be made serviceable. You are directed to furnish him with a boat if you have no objection to this. The LOVE is to be cleaned and refitted at Plymouth for Channel service and supplied with 10 weeks provisions. The Commander of the ship advises that a number of men have died and he fears that there is disease on board. You are directed to furnish him with vinegar to wash the ship and to shift his ballast, and if he has reason to believe that there may be distemper on board he is to take care that his men do not mix with the companies of other ships in port. The Captain of the MERMAID at Newcastle is in want of provisions and you are to give orders to the Commissioners of the Victualling that she be immediately supplied.
