In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
We understand by your letter of the 28th past to our Secretary that that you have considered the proposal of the Master Attendant at the Sheerness Yard, and what the Chatham Commissioners wrote to you, of adding some hands to the Ships in Ordinary at that place for their greater safety.
You think that the addition proposed of four Able Seamen to each fourth Rate, three to each fifth, and two to each sixth, is necessary for that purpose. Upon consideration we signify our approval and direct you to give Orders for entering the said number of men on the Ships in Ordinary at Sheerness accordingly, both those now there, and those that will be laid up hereafter.
