Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)
A Petition has been presented to the Admiralty Commissioners on behalf of John Balch, late Carpenter of the DEVONSHIRE, setting forth that he has been refused his Wages in this Ship by reason of his having been suspended by their Lordships' Order for assisting in stealing HM Customs. He has since been dismissed from his Employment for the said offence, but I am commanded to inform you that it is not intended by this suspension that his Wages should be stopped.
