Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)

The CENTURION has lately returned from the Straights and is now in the River Thames. The Admiralty Commissioners have commanded me to inform you in answer to your letter of the 14th inst; that it is their direction that you pay the Men belonging to this Ship, instead of the Letters of Attorney they left behind them when they went to the Straights, notwithstanding any former Orders to the contrary.
