Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)

You informed the Admiralty Commissioners by your letter of yesterday's date that the ROMNEY and COLCHESTER are now paid off, so that in all probability the three Ships which now serve as Guardships at Chatham will likewise be soon paid off.
Their Lordships therefore direct that you consider and propose to them which three Ships in the River Medway you judge most proper to be employed as a Guard there. Also I desire that you send for information an Account of what Cash and Tallys are now in the hands of the Navy Treasurer, towards defraying the Debt of the Navy, and on what Funds they are assigned, or what other assignments for Money are in his hands.
