Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)

A letter concerning repairs to the BRITANNIA and the condition of her Fir Timber used on her in 1690. This Timber should be removed if found defective so that the Ship may have a thorough repair. The Officers who surveyed the RESTORATION reported that her defects would take two months to repair, but they could not recommend her for Channel service. The Admiralty Commissioners, taking notice that some works have been carried out direct that as it is now a time of Peace, a thorough repair be given her.
