In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
By our order of 12 October 1697, in pursuance of an order from the Lords Justices, we directed you to stop the pay of officers of the two Marine Regiments lately commanded by the Marquis of Carmarthen and Sir Cloudesley Shovell until they had given satisfaction to the Office of Ordnance for arms they were charged with. Lieutenants of the Marine Regiments have now applied to have the stop taken off their pay as they are not chargeable for the arms. You are directed to do this if it appears that they are not accountable.
