Document signed by William Lowndes, 1652-1724, Secretary to the Treasury (from 1695) under King William III and Queen Anne.

The Treasury has lately ordered the sum of £3,520.7.7 to the Treasurer of the Navy to be paid over to Sir Cloudesley Shovell or the agent of the 2nd Marine Regiment, to pay that due to the inhabitants of several towns for quartering the officers and soldiers from 1 April 1696 to 30 September 1698. You are directed to give directions to the agent to examine each Captain's account before payment and that no more is paid to the inhabitants than the subsistence allowed to any officer or soldier. The Treasury has also ordered a further £2,438.4.0 to the Treasurer of the Navy for a month's subsistence to the four new Marine Regiments from 29 January last. You are directed to imprest that sum to the Colonels of the four regiments in equal proportions.
