Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)

Your letter of 25 February in answer to mine of 24 February, giving an account of the warrant appointing Richard Burdett as Purser of the BURFORD has been stopped by the Controller of the Victualing from 2 February 1696. It is stated that he has not put in his accounts for the ANGLESEA and JAMES galley and that no Purser has since been borne on the books of the BURFORD. Their Lordships have said that they are not a little surprised that in all this time they have not been made aware of this and would therefore know the reason. They ask that care be taken to bring him to account so that His Majesty may be indemnified.
