Document signed by Phineas Bowles, Secretary to the Admiralty [1689-1690], 1647-1714.

The King has stated his requirements for the Project for the next year's Service and the Navy Board is tasked with identifying the ships suited to the various categories of service including the number of guns and Men. Great urgency is required. Lord Nottingham is to receive a copy tonight. An Estimate of the Charge of the whole Project is also required. The two First Rates are to be the ROYAL SOVEREIGN and the BRITANNIA. The ships of the Mediterranean and West Indies Squadrons are to be as previously named by us. Two ships in the latter Squadron are to go in convoy to Virginia and Jamaica. The BERKELEY CASTLE, SAMPSON and HANNIBAL are to be included in the project List and Estimate. Other matters are left to the discretion of the Navy Board. In the event that their are insufficient numbers of Royal Naval ships consideration is to be given to hiring.
