In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Ordering the SAMPSON at Sheerness to be sunk as protection for the graving dock and requiring a report on what other ships past their useful lives could be sunk there to enhance the protection. Following surveys of the JOHN of DUBLIN and SOPHIA at Portsmouth found unfit to go to sea, they are to be paid off, their crews are to turned over into the PLYMOUTH, and the Companies paid for their time in the two condemned ships.
