Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)
The Admiralty Commissioners have directed Mr Letchmore, Councellor for the Admiralty and Navy, together with Mr Bale, to attend your Board in order to inform themselves in what manner Prosecutions for Embezzlements were managed and the charges thereof defrayed, accounted for and allowed before Mr Whittaker was appointed Solicitor to this and your Office, in order they inform their Lordships in writing.
You are to give Orders for their being assisted by some of your Clerks or Officers in this inspection, and when completed you should consider and report your opinion to their Lordships, and whether any other methods may now be taken with more advantage to the Service by the Councellor and Mr Bale, who is to assist him.
