In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
By our Orders of the 18th December 1700 you were directed to pay several persons mentioned therein five months Pay of an Able Seaman to each of them as an encouragement and reward for their Service in going aboard the SHOREHAM when she took a Pirate Ship off the Capes Of Virginia.
A Petition has lately been presented to this Board by Caleb Fox stating that he was Surgeon of the NICHOLSON, a Merchant Ship, and went on board the SHOREHAM and was there when she fought the Pirate Ship, which he has made appear by the Oaths of Thomas Jacobs and John Rose, two of the persons above mentioned.
We therefore direct that you pay Caleb Fox the five months allowance made to the Able Seamen out of the Money in the hands of the Navy Treasurer from the tenths of Prizes.
