In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Having this morning discussed with you your letter to our Secretary of the 11th inst; concerning the furnishing of the Ships appointed for Service in the West Indies with worn canvas for awnings, and being informed that there is none in store at Portsmouth fit for that purpose, although there is enough of the worst sort of English Duck not convertible to other use, we direct you to cause each of the said Ships to be supplied with so much as may be necessary.
When any other Ships have similar needs you are to order their being furnished either with worn canvas or such as may be proper for such use, so that serviceable canvas is not employed.
