In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
Mr Field, Purser of the GLOUCESTER, has informed the Board that on closing his Accounts for her he found an after charge upon him at your Office from Rear Admiral Benbow of £51:5s:0d, and from Captain Sealey, his Commander, of £6:7s3d for fresh Provisions issued to sick Men in the West Indies. He has laid before us the enclosed Certificate from the Rear Admiral and his Commander from which it appears that there were no Salt Provisions stopt from the Men in lieu of the Fresh, but that they were victualled by the Purser at the usual allowance. Upon consideration and what was discussed with you here last Tuesday, we think the Purser should be allowed the said fresh Provisions on his Account, and direct you to do this accordingly.
