Document signed by Josiah Burchett (c.1666-1746), Secretary to the Admiralty (1694-1742)
My Lords of the Admiralty have considered your letter of the 25th inst; relating to the desire of the Merchants concerned for importing Hemp by Commission. I am commanded by their Lordships to desire that you will let them know at what time it may be convenient for the Convoy they desire to join their Ships in the Sound, in order to conduct them home.
Their Lordships being informed by Captain Cutler of the DREADNOUGHT at Plymouth that there are such Sails at that place so proper for her if she proceeds on foreign voyage, as cannot without trouble or loss of time be supplied at any other place, by reason she requires not so big as a 70 Gun Ship does, and bigger than one of 60, their Lordships would have you recommend it to the Commissioners there to take care to supply the said ship in all respects as may be most for the Service and agreeable to the Establishment.
