Two Logbooks HMS EURYALUS 2nd March 1858 – 30th September 1859 Mediterranean Prince Alfred serving as Cadet and Lieutenant Thomas Keith Hudson HMS EURYALUS 1st October 1859 to 4th November 1869 serving in the Mediterranean, Portsmouth Refit, South Atlantic, South Africa, Portsmouth. Prince Alfred lays foundation stone of Cape Town Breakwater.

HMS EURYALUS built in 1853 was under the command of J. W. Tarleton while serving in the Mediterranean in 1858. The same year Prince Alfred was appointed to the ship as a midshipman.
