In-letters and orders received by the Navy Board
The last Victualling Commissioners have by their letter of the 17th inst; applied to be allowed their Salaries up to last Christmas, notwithstanding that the present Commissioners entered their employment on the 25th November last. It has been the custom of the Navy that the Officers who hold their employment by Patent had their Salaries, by Order of the Lord Admiral, continued until the end of the quarter in which their employment ceased. We direct you to make allowances to the said late Commissioners of their Salaries for the whole quarter ending last Christmas.
